Baulking Lake is now available to book, either for smaller groups of three or four anglers or exclusively for a maximum of ten anglers. Simply follow the ‘Book here’ link which can be found further down this page and book via the GoCatch website.
All groups will be met at the entrance by an Embryo representative who will undertake a site walk round and a swim/area draw. They will also give you the inside line on how it’s been fishing, explain the rules and try to help you catch as many fish as possible!
Anglers will be given the chance to fish together in their groups. With the layout of the lake, you’re never far from the fish and with four free swims at all times, even when the lake is full there will be a chance to move if you’d like.
We stocked the lake in the autumn/winter of 2019 with around 560 x C3, C4 and C5 carp from Mark Simmond’s at Heather Fisheries, Priory Fisheries, VS Fisheries and a Lea Valley supplier. We then added a further twenty cracking C6’s from ‘Simmo’ at the end of 2020 to make a final stock of over 580 fish.
As always, a very diverse mixture of fish was received, including fully scaled mirrors, linears, leathery mirrors and some beautiful commons, so there really is something for everyone at Baulking!
The lake itself is 20 acres in size, with depths down to over 40ft in the middle (swipe on the lake map to see depth map), making it the ideal environment for these fish to reach their growing potential! In fact, some of the fish caught during the light amount of test fishing that’s been done prior to opening have put on over 10lb in weight, which is fantastic.
Baulking contains very little in the way of weed, so finding areas to fish is not a problem and with it being quite a deep lake, it fishes really well right into the winter.
Making bait your ‘feature’ is a great way to fish here and when they turn up on you, action can be hectic, so be prepared with plenty of bait if you want to hold them in your swim and maximise your chances of a big hit!
