North Bank in Peterborough opened in the spring of 2020 and is the ultimate social lake! It is only available to fish on an exclusive booking basis, with a maximum of eight anglers.
All of the swims are positioned on a central island/spit with the car park and BBQ hut/area in the centre, providing an ideal area for socialising (See lake map opposite. Swipe left for depth map).
Being an ex-trout fishery that had remained unfished for many years, there were no existing fish (except for a few small silver fish) in the lake when we took it on, so it was a completely blank canvas.
We really wanted this venue to be something very special so we stocked the lake with 190 fish; a mixture of absolutely stunning carp supplied by Mark Simmond’s, Priory Fisheries and VS Fisheries. All of whom supplied us with some of their very finest carp!
These fish consisted of a diverse mix of scaly, linear, sparsely scaled and leathery mirrors with a few commons thrown in! The majority of the fish were over 20lb with a couple over 30lb, so whilst it had a great stock of quality fish from the off, the fish have really thrived in the rich, clear water, and the lake now holds a very good head of thirties for its size, up to a current lake record of just under 37lb!
The lake is prone to getting weedy through the summer months, so taking time to locate clear spots amongst it, and being able to fish them accurately is essential if you are to get bites at that time of year.
Please note, the water levels can fluctuate depending on the time of year, so it’s worth bearing in mind that if you are fishing here through the late autumn or winter, welly boots are highly recommended, as high water levels can mean slightly flooded jetties/staging.
